It’s been a busy month for Upicnic and we’ve loved every single second of it! Sure, we’ve not gotten enough pillow time, but our co-founder Alp likes to remind us that we’ll get more when we’re old – so I guess karmically it evens out.

In case you didn’t know, we’ve added live entertainment as one of the epic activities you can now add to your picnics – so, obviously, we started March 2016 with a photoshoot for our Music Gene, Temi Hason (very good, do visit www.temihason.com). Not only is Temi a brilliant cellist who will make romantic dates and family picnics absolutely memorable, but she is also an amazing entertainer for children! She brings years of experience in early childhood musical education to Upicnic – and you know what that means? It means that now Upicnic also offers birthday parties for children with a side of musical education. That’s right: the grown-ups can enjoy food and drinks right in the park, while the kids learn about music with special instruments that are made just for them! You can add that to the list of fun outdoor activities for families in New York for the spring and summer.

As if that wasn’t enough, we also decided to celebrate our love and obsession with Game of Thrones by having a picnic in Union Square the day Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons happened to land in New York City. Much to our disappointment, we didn’t get to see Drogon, Rhaegal or Viserion, but we had an epic time picnicking and playing with Games of Thrones fans at the event.

Btw, big shout out to Columbia University for including us in their externship program! As part of the program, we were delighted to have two of their wonderfully bright freshmen come hang out with us at Upicnic’s HQ during Spring Break – and we got to do all kinds of fun stuff with them to show them what the startup life is all about! Tiffani Li and Stephanie Geng Chen were just awesome – they helped us with new menu taste-testing and a bit of guerrilla marketing – plus we all got to play horseshoe together and I’m not too proud to admit that they kicked my sweet behind.

All in all, March has passed in a jiffy, but what we’re really happy about is that, however sluggishly, Spring is finally here! Alas, lawns are not open for picnic season yet, but birthday parties, family reunions and graduations will all be starting soon and we can’t wait to throw all kinds of parties in the park!

And let’s not forget that Upicnic has a whole new menu coming out. We’ve been busy trying out recipes that combine fresh, seasonal ingredients so that our picnics can be even healthier – hello summer salads! Just wait for the Spring weather to be right, and then you’ll be able to order food online, along with fun games and outdoor activities – and that’s why Upicnic is indeed the smart way to picnic.
