Upicnic: New York City's Go-To Picnic Rescue Service

I wake up to the sun shining in my eyes. Perfect start to Saturday morning. I check my phone and check the weather app: sunny with a high of seventy.

It’s been three minutes since I’ve woken up and the group chat is already buzzing with questions about plans for the day. The classic New York way to spend a beautiful day in the city is a day in Central Park.  But as a fledgling New Yorker, where do I even begin to plan? This means only one thing. Obviously I started where everyone usually starts: Google.

*Googles “Things to do in Central Park”*

Results:

Rock the Boat--take a romantic paddle around the Lake. As I am painfully single, I will pass.

Monkey around the Central Park Zoo-- Smelling animals in the hot sun is not exactly what I consider ideal.

Picnic and people watch in Sheep’s Meadow--Relaxing and doable. I’ll take it.

I roll out of bed, look around my apartment and try to gather the supplies for a picnic in Central Park.

First things first- I need a blanket. I can’t find a blanket, so instead I use a bed sheet.  Every picnic needs food, so I look in my fridge and find...an old banana, a jar of pickles and an abandoned juice cleanse.  I am too lazy to cook up a storm, so I guess I’ll settle for a hot dog or pretzel at the park.  With such a big group, it would be nice to also have some games.  I dig through my closet and I realize that only a volleyball and pack of cards is in my storage. #JustNewYorkthings. I guess I’ll just have to entertain with my conversation…

I  make my way to Central Park.  I lay out my blanket and let out a deep sigh of relief. I finally made it. Just as I’m about to lie down,  I spot the group next to me receive a picnic basket.  I see someone pull out a checkered blanket, badminton set and tasty sandwiches.  I glance down at my faded bed sheets, lack of games and my hot dog from the cart.  I look over at the basket again and I see the logo Upicnic.Hm.

*Googles Upicnic.*

A one-stop shop for picnic supplies--a planned picnic within 5 minutes?  Noted: Try them out on my next picnic adventure in Central Park.
