Break the Barriers: Networking Picnics

I have always despised formal networking events – you know the type: overcrowded conference rooms, stale cheese & crackers, uncomfortable formal attire, lighting-speed business cards exchange. But, most of all, I really supremely hate summarizing my entire life and future potential in a strategically edited 30 seconds elevator pitch.

And why wouldn’t I? Who decided that I should only be worth thirty seconds of someone else’s attention? I may be an eternal dreamer, but I need to talk to another human being for at least a few minutes before I decide whether we should somehow collaborate.

At Upicnic, we dared to dream of a better format that would allow people to authentically get to know each other and break through the orchestrated, artificial barriers that plague now-a-days networking events.

Wondering why our networking picnics are so much better than traditional networking events? Simply put, they offer:

  1. Better Format: relax, sit on our comfy blankets, mix & mingle while munching on delicious finger food and sipping on ice-cold lemonade – maybe throw the ball around a bit. Forget about your elevator pitch and get to really know the people around you.

  • Better Food: I’ve had enough boring platters of cheese and crackers. How about finger food that people will actually want to eat and share?

  • Better Entertainment: there is one proven way for a group of people to start collaborating within 30 seconds of knowing each other: form teams and play. Volleyball, Spikeball, Football, Soccer, Badminton – whatever the sport or lawn game, everybody will know each others’ name and remember it well past the event.

  • Better Setting: trade-in stuffy conference rooms for gorgeous park lawns – fresh air, breathtaking views, and soft grass under your feet.

  • Better Attire: ditch your suit and tie for shorts and a t-shirt – formal wear is a shield most people hide behind. Once that’s removed, everyone’s personality can finally break free.

The result? An original, entertaining, out-of-the-ordinary event that will let authenticity and collaboration shine through.

What’s more, Upicnic networking events foster an environment where people are free to interact as their authentic selves long before they get caught in their own web of rehearsed, professional constructs. And at the end of the day, wouldn’t you rather get to know people instead of just collecting business cards?

The wonderful thing about Easter break is that it comes with all types of fun outdoor activities (weather permitting). It’s the first actual holiday of the year when you can kind of bet good money you’ll be able to spend some time outside. All hail the Easter bunny.
