Having a Company Picnic in New York? We make Picnic Catering Simple

When you think of having a picnic, you mostly think of something fun, with snacks and sandwiches, maybe a few games, possibly a bottle of rose, and great company. So why is it that when you scale up the concept of picnic to a corporate event, all of a sudden you need a picnic catering service and five different third-party companies for rentals and performers?

At Upicnic we believe it should be simpler than that. Whether you are just having a friends outing or an office field day, planning your picnic should require you the same exact effort:

Step 1: Decide what you want to eat and drink.

Step 2: Pick your games and entertainment.

Step 3: Tell everybody when and where to show up.

Step 4: Let someone else do all the work for ya :)

Yet, your first instinct might be to search for “picnic catering” – and once you see what results come up for that, you’ll probably agree how "wrong" many of these companies are. Just because they are a catering company, doesn't mean they know how to be a catering service for a picnic event. Why would you want to have lasagna in a 100˚F weather? And how do you imagine that baby greens salad will look within half hour of setting it out? Yep, you guessed right, it’s gonna look gross.

See, the thing is, while I am sure their food is perfectly delicious, they are not picnic people, and their food is not picnic food. They don’t know NYC parks, their rules and regulations. Do you really think you’re going to be able to set up warming plates with candles in the middle of a wooden area? And how exactly are you transporting all those trays to the middle of the park without a van?

Fried food gets soggy, leafy salads wilt, melted cheese sets, and you end up with gross lukewarm food that nobody will want to touch after the first 20 minutes of your event.

I know what you’re thinking. You can simply have them make sandwiches for everybody. Brilliant. Except… would they have the right bread that won’t get soggy after 5 minutes? Can you trust they’ll refrain from adding extra tomatoes and lettuce so your picnic sandwiches don’t look like they’ve been dragged through a car wash? And how will they package the food, with a buck load of plastic wrap or will they be environmentally conscious and opt for reusable or compostable paper trays? There are a lot of logistics that go into catering any event, but there are even more details that go into catering a picnic.

So if you want to talk picnic catering, don’t look into companies that do this as an add-on. Look for caterers whose entire business revolves around picnics – we know you can’t drive a refrigerated truck down Central Park like it’s no big deal. We know how to keep your food nice and cold, how to pack all the things you need. We know where and how you can set up tables and games - and another million details for tricks, rules, and regulations for NYC parks. Our know-how and honest advice is what our customers appreciate the most, and how they know they found the absolute picnic experts, not just someone to cater their event.

In fact, at Upicnic we know everything you can and cannot do in every area of the park, and we are glad to suggest locations and go walk around them with you & your boss before the event.

So yes, at Upicnic we might specialize in corporate picnic catering, but please do not call us a catering company, because there is so much more to picnics than food!

We are a one-stop-shop picnic solution for everything our corporate customers need. Maybe you are dead-set on a caricaturist, or you just must have a pink dolphin glitter tattoo, and watch the kids play freeze dance with a live cello player. But guess what: you shouldn’t have to deal with all that research and logistics, so we do it all for you. We take care of everything you need to rent, and book all kinds of entertainment you might need.

That way you only deal with one company, one person, one email, one phone number. Event planning doesn’t have to be stressful, and it certainly should not be if you want it to be a picnic!
