Make Your Mondays Much Better with Movie Nights in Bryant Park

Why Netflix and chill when you could be outside watching a free movie in Bryant Park? Every summer since 2006, HBO hosts the annual Bryant Park Film Festival featuring classic films, such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Omen, Top Gun, and more. You can check out this season’s lineup on the event’s official website here.

Every Monday night at Bryant Park, which is located between 38th and 42th street & 5th Ave and Avenue of the Americas, a film is shown after sunset, starting around 8 or 9 pm. However, you’re going to want to arrive early because the Lawn opens at 5 pm and it’s definitely a rush to claim your spot. Pro tip: The Gravel, which surrounds the lawn, opens at 4 pm, so we recommend showing up early and waiting.

If you’re worried about what to do while you’re waiting for sunset, have no fear Upicnic is here! We can deliver food, drinks, games, and blankets prior to entering the park to keep you entertained while you wait for sunset. Also, thanks to Bank of America, everyone gets free popcorn (that’s right, free)! If you’re looking for more of a dinner option, Hester Street Fair is also happening in Bryant Park from 4 pm until the start of the film or you could also check out the Le Pain Quotidien, Wafels and Dinges, or Breads Bakery kiosk within the park.

The bathrooms are located on the Upper Terrace, however they become ladies-only after 7 pm. Sorry, guys–you will have to use the porto-potties located on 40th street. We don’t recommend arriving with lawn chairs, pets, or alcohol because those are all prohibited in the park. If it rains, be ready to get wet because unless it’s a downpour, movie night will still go on. We know how much you loved watching the Fourth of July fireworks in the rain, so you could potentially have a similar experience again.

This event is in partnership with Bank of America, Time Out New York, Lord and Taylor, Peapod, and the Bryant Park Alliance. There’s nothing like the rush of everyone running in the park at 5 on the dot to claim their spots. You can check out our experience in doing so on our very own Instagram account. We recommend settling to your seats an hour before the showing starts so you don’t miss out on the pre-movie Warner Bros. cartoon or the HBO dance ritual.

Grab some free popcorn, a picnic blanket, and we’ll see you there!
