There are a lot of free activities in NYC during the summer, outdoor movie nights are one of New York’s most popular summer traditions. No NYC summer is complete without watching at least one outdoor movie with your friends or significant other. Imagine watching a classic movie, under the stars, with New York’s buildings as a backdrop. In this blog post we’re going to tell you more about the best parks where to go, the line up this year, and how Upicnic can help you getting a good spot without you having to worry!
Bryant Park
Bryant Park’s Movie Nights is one of New York’s most celebrated summer traditions. Because this is probably the most popular one, and it’s right in the middle of Manhattan we suggest you get there a little earlier than 5pm when the lawn opens. People will literally go running with their blankets open to get the best spot.
If you can’t get out of the office on time, or you just simply don’t want to fight a New Yorker (because they have a way-too-big blanket covering 1/3 or the lawn) you can contact Upicnic to go earlier and save you a good spot. When you get there you’ll have a nice space with a blanket, food and drinks waiting for you!
The no-nos for this event: No chairs, tables, or plastic ground coverings (including sheets, tarps, bags, or pads) and no dogs on the lawn. And remember: all bags, briefcases, and backpacks are subject to inspection. Movies start at sunset, typically around 8-9pm.
The line up this year (2018) is:
June 18: The Breakfast Club
June 25: The Philadelphia Story
July 2: A League of Their Own
July 9: Little Miss Sunshine
July 16: Fried Green Tomatoes
July 23: The Princess Bride
July 30: When Harry Met Sally…
August 6: The Wiz
August 13: Thelma & Louise
August 20: The Terminator
McCarren Park
If you live in Brooklyn and there’s no way you’re going to Midtown, McCarren Park’s Summerscreen is for you! In addition to the movie, there’s also a live show before the movie starts, and you’ll get at least one Wes Anderson movie on the line-up. Oh, the Brooklynite's dream!
Doors at 6pm, Music at 7pm and movies at sundown (around 8-8.30pm).
Unlike Bryant park you can bring chairs and DOGS!
Don’t forget Upicnic can save you a spot with blankets, food and drinks if you can’t make it early enough!
The line up this year (2018) is:
July 11: Jawbreaker
July 18: When Harry Met Sally
July 25: Love & Basketball
August 1: Hackers
August 8: Fantastic Mr. Fox
August 15: Die Hard
